Leading a Talented Team

By | March 9, 2016

I am privileged to lead a team who make me proud every day. They strive for success, look for outcomes that rock, they collaborate across vast team structures and they constantly look for opportunities to continue to grow and develop. And they make me laugh constantly, even if it is at my own expense …..

I read many journals and books on leadership – each with beautiful considered words of wisdom, based on years of experience, battle scars and victory cards. And from these words I have learnt so much. From Who Moved the Cheese, a book focused on leading in times of change, to Lean In, a book focused on leading a team which embraces and grows with diversity, right through to the 7 habits of highly effective people, and Lou Gerstner’s very own “Who says elephants can’t dance (in an era of disruption and rapid change, this book is just as relevant now as it was when it was published in 2002). Each author brings an individual and personal account of leading, and helping teams succeed. to the table.

But here’s the thing… Sometimes leadership is about setting a vision, giving your team their wings and then stepping out of their way so they can soar.

Over the last few weeks, as I have embarked on a number of new projects, which has meant I have been less available to my team than usual. I will find a new pattern and rhythm of working, and will soon get “back on the grid”, however in the meantime my team, with clarity of vision and absolute trust and empowerment, have jumped in with both feet, developing, learning, growing and expanding in their eminence and corporate influence. They have found their wings, and have flourished in doing so.

This is a short blog – to publicly say thank you to my team. Because truth be told, not only do they produce outcomes which rock, but they also each inspire me every day.
